Kobo Town - Founded and fronted by émigré Trinidadian songwriter Drew Gonsalves, Kobo Town’s music has been variously described as “an intoxicating blend of lilting calypsonian wit, dancehall reggae and trombone-heavy brass” (The Guardian) and a “unique, transnational composite of rhythm, poetry and activist journalism.”(Exclaim!) The Bristol Ensemble- A quartet of members of Bristol’s only professional orchestra. The orchestra holds a pivotal position in South West music. The Ensemble has worked with outstanding international artists and soloists, including Dame Evelyn Glennie. Lonely Tourist - 'Classic underdog pop music' - Steve Lamacq Bristol based Glaswegian Lonely Tourist has just released his fourth album Remuneration. Steve Lamacq chose one of the tracks Frank the Barber as one of his 'Lamacq Liveners' (played every day for a week on BBC
6music). Other singles from the album, Luxury Coach and Last Day at Tony's have also featured on 6music's Gideon Coe's show as well and being Radio Scotland singles of the week. Mystic Mbira Music/ Chartwell Dutiro & Jori Buchel-Zimbabwean master mbira player Chartwell Dutiro's story begins in the sacred rituals of his home village. From 1986 to 1994 he recorded and toured the world with the legendary Thomas Mapfumo and the Blacks Unlimited. Chartwell currently performs alongside mbira player and singer Jori Buchel. Having grown up playing classical violin in a variety of orchestras, Jori discovered the sound of the mbira while studying Cultural Musicology at the University of Amsterdam. She went on to play mbira at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and perform with Chartwell Dutiro & Spirit Talk Mbira.
