This is our second event celebrating the iconic underground music venue “The Dug Out”, the music played and the people that went. A mingling fusion of Punks, Rastas, students, soul girls and soul boys, Afro-Caribbeans, middle-class trendies, musicians, artists, misfits, drinkers, smokers, nonconformists and rebels. A melting pot representing a generation of youth that broke social, cultural and genre boundaries on the dance floor and where visionary DJ’s mashed punk, soul, hip-hop, reggae, funk, dub, jazz, disco and groove behind the decks. The video lounge brought us our first sound and vision tapes and a selection of cult films, the space invader machine a taste of things to come and the legendary sticky carpets a source of nostalgia since the club closed in 1986…
Thanks to Pete Webb for his text and to Andy “Beezer” for his photos, some of which will also be on show at the venue on the night.
The Dojo Club, 16 Park Row, Bristol, being the closest we could get to the real thing, is quite small. Tickets will come out in small batches and are very limited
